Playing the piano is a craft on its own. Many may see the piano as the most common instrument, but you can do more with it in the most straightforward manner ever. Do you know what the most piano keys hits are in one minute? 824. Sounds wholly impossible but it happened.
Portuguese-American musician Domingos-Antonio Gomes (born 1977), aka Antonio Domingos, made it happen. With his choice of Yamaha CFX concert grand piano, Antonio sets a record of hitting the key B7 a staggering 824 times, in just 60 seconds!
This works out to be 13 hits in a second! You need agility, speed and precision to accomplish a feat such as this. The dedication he has shown goes beyond normal circumstances. He achieved this record at Euromusica at Portugal (Lisbon) on March 4, 2017.
To take things a notch higher, he beat the previous record by 59 hits, potentially because he used a technique using two alternate fingers. It took him four months of hard training before he performed this feat on an unmodified Yamaha CFX concert grand piano in a music store in Lisbon, Portugal.
Antonio has been playing the piano since the age of seven, and he proudly added that he broke this record to demonstrate his athletic prowess on the piano so that he can gain recognition and visibility in the international world of music.
The previous record holder was Bence Peter with 765 piano key hits in one minute, who achieved this in Hungary, Debrecen Ball of the City, Kolcsey Convention Center on January 14, 2012. Peter’s key of choice was C# then.
The choice of piano must be a standard grand, an upright piano. It must be an original instrument without any mechanical modification or assistance.
These piano players made their way into the Guinness World Records the unconventional way. If you ponder, each one of them became a musical success, just by a piano key away! Literally.
