In 1866 Steinway & Sons opened the first Steinway Hall on 14th Street, New York. A “Steinway Hall” was the original Apple Store. It was a building housing showrooms, sales departments, concert halls, and technical workshops for Steinway & Sons. The original New York Hall had a main auditorium capable of seating over 2,000, and a stage able to accommodate a 100-piece orchestra. It quickly became the city’s cultural focus.

In 2017, Steinway opened their first new European retail, technical, and concert space outside of Germany for 142 years.

Located in Paris’ culturally rich 7th Arrondissement (borough), the truly elegant premises total 700 square metres, and feature a 50-seat concert room, two rehearsal studios and a large retail showroom. The studios can house up to 45 pianos, and a team of Steinway technicians also reside on-site.

Thomas’s authoritative playing shows why Feldman’s keyboard music is some of the most important of the last century.

Morton Feldman wrote for the piano for most of his composing career, and the 46 pieces included in Philip Thomas's collection – the most extensive survey of this music to date, including several works recorded for the first time – provide a thread through its changing emphases and stylistic shifts.

The earliest here is an untitled piece from 1942, just one minute long and composed when Feldman was 16; the latest is Palais de Mari from 1986, the year before his death.

There’s now a cruise ship called “Piano Land”, and it has just completed its maiden voyage.

So why has Astro Ocean given the ship this rather unusual name? Is the liner specially themed to attract pianists? Are there pianos in every suite?

From December 2019, Piano Land’s home port will be Xiamen, China. And sitting just a few hundred yards offshore is the beautiful island of Kulangsu, which is also known as “Piano Island” or “Piano Land”.

People visit Kulangsu not only for the scenic beauty, but for the music. Culture is at the heart of this small island, and over the years Kulangsu has produced a disproportionately large number of world-class musicians.

Road movie set in segregation-era deep south wins top Oscar prize despite controversies surrounding its director and writer

Green Book has won the Oscar for best picture at the 91st Academy Awards.

Based on a real-life road trip through the deep south in the early 1960s, Green Book’s victory proved a considerable upset at the awards, after a night largely marked by predictability.
