When 7-year-old Sophia Cheung hears a truck park outside her home in Hong Kong, she grabs her sheet music and runs out the door.

In the truck, instructor Evan Kam, holding a sanitizer bottle and wearing a face mask, greets her by a piano.

With schools shut since late January because of the coronavirus outbreak, which has killed four of Hong Kong's 890 cases, students have been asked to take classes online.

But that won't work very well for piano lessons.

Ming’s Piano, a music school with 12 teachers and about 200 students, has hired three trucks to deliver lessons at students' doorsteps and save its business.

Following COVID-19 measures announced by the Ministry of Health as of 24 March 2020 regarding events and limiting group sizes to 10 or fewer, we will unfortunately be closing all Conservatory activity from public access for the rest of the concert season at least until further notice.

Following COVID-19 measures announced by the Ministry of Health as of 24 March 2020 regarding events and limiting group sizes to 10 or fewer, we will unfortunately be closing all Conservatory activity from public access for the rest of the concert season at least until further notice.

We need to do this to prioritise the safety of our students, staff and audience members, while continuing to deliver our curriculum and programming as fully as is sensible.

As such, all concerts and events have been cancelled, postponed or made internal-only. While internal-only events will still take place, they will now be open only to the YST students and faculty/jury members who are taking part in the respective classes, assessments or competition, with no public audience.

Senior Recitals will be open to the jury panel only, but they will also be live-streamed on our Youtube channel (more details to be announced). Click below to visit our channel and check out some past performances and highlights as well!

We hope to be back bringing you more great music in person soon. Thank you for your kind understanding and continued (if more virtual) support during these challenging times. Please take care and keep well!

Dear all,

We are still awaiting for an official answer from MOH.

Dear all,

We are still awaiting for an official answer from MOH.
The news came too sudden. MOH hotline unreachable since 830am till now 535pm, with repeated calls every 10mins. Tomorrow we are heading down personally.

It is very unclear as of now, because the reason for all centre-based tuition and enrichment classes to be suspended is to reduce the intermingling of students from different schools.
However,

1) Our student base is 99% working adults. There is no intermingling of students from different schools.

2) At any one time, there are less than 10 people at each level of our school as well. Probably less than 6 on average for the past recent weeks.

3) All lessons are 100% (1to1) No group classes
And of course, we have already been implementing temperature taking, wearing of mask, wiping of all music instruments with alcohol wipes (70% Isopropylalcohol, not wet towels) and using of hand sanitizers.

We will only do exactly what the government wants us to do. As of now, its very vague. We hope to have an official answer from MOH by tomorrow 2359hours 26 March 2020.
