The Beatles used a piano called the Mrs. Mills piano that had that tinny sound.

I've had this small upright piano for a while and I've always wanted to add a pedal to give it that similar ragtime/honky tonk/tack piano sound.

In the biz, it's called a "mandolin rail" and it's a pretty simple modification that gives a really unique sound to the instrument.

This pedal modification allows you to get the honky tonk sound on the fly.

Someone commented: "My music teacher in school taught me, Eastern music has quarter tones and third tones. When I recently looked up closer what just intonation of keys means, I found the syntonic comma. The syntonic comma is about a ninth tone. There is half, quarter, third and ninth, but no eighth note I'm aware of."

One of the greatest strengths of synthesis over acoustic is the ability to program alternate tuning systems - any you can imagine.

Not all hardware synths can do this, though. It is the preserve of only a few - and one of the strengths of DSI instruments and the OB6 i.e. creating and installing your own tuning system on the synth.

It is a myth that only serious musicians needs to have their pianos voiced. In reality, all pianos need to be voiced periodically, even those used by novice pianists. When a pianist is just starting to learn to play, it is important that a properly-voiced instrument is used so that she is able to discern between notes based purely on her playing. This reduces the number of variables that she has to handle in her learning journey.
