On 28 January to 24 February 2019, Singapore will host the i Light Singapore 2019, an annual light installation programme. This festival, previously known as i Light Marina Bay, has been held since 2010 and is meant to promote the responsible use of energy, while featuring fringe activities and bringing vibrancy to public spaces in Singapore. The 2019 edition will be a special edition, as it will be held in conjunction with the launch of the Singapore Bicentennial commemoration.
The sustainable light festival will be held around Marina Bay waterfront but will also feature programmes in the Civic District, Singapore River and Fort Canning Park. It will feature 31 light art installations incorporating energy-saving lamps or environmentally-friendly material and one multimedia show.
One of the installations will be Keys of Lights, held at Raffles Terrace at Fort Canning Park. This is an interactive and captivating piano installation that encourages audience participation. Thanks to a built-in musical algorithm, visitors who play different notes on the grand piano at the premises will evoke visual images on the Lighthouse. The images are inspired by Singapore’s unique flora and fauna landscape and promise to brighten visitors’ evenings at Fort Canning Park. Keys of Light will be one-of-a-kind installation that beautifully combines music, animation and architecture.
Visitors can also look forward to performances from pianists hailing from various institutions around Singapore. Pianists from Singapore Management University (SMU) Ivory Keys, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) Klaiverensemble, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Piano Emsemble, Nanyang Polytechnic Piano Emsemble and National University of Singapore Piano Emsemble (NUSPE) will take turns to present their talents in SG Pianists x Keys of Light. Watch these young talents display their skills and churn out enthralling images on the Lighthouse on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.
General admission to i Light Singapore is free, however, there may be charges for selected programmes and events. The opening hours to the festival are 7:30pm to 11:00pm daily (extended to 12:00am on Friday and Saturday nights). More information can be found on the i Light Singapore 2019 FAQs page.
