Jet Chong - Philippines, Piano
“I started playing the piano when I was five years old. My older brother was actually the one who wanted to learn to play the piano, but my mom noticed my signs of interest and brought me along to piano lessons too. Later on, my brother moved to other hobbies while I stayed on, gradually appreciating and loving classical music.
Before YST, I studied in Chiang Kai Shek College in the Philippines, and then transferred to the Philippine High School for the Arts, a specialised public school, as I wanted to focus on piano. I transferred back to Chiang Kai Shek College for grades 11 and 12 as I had doubts whether or not I wanted to pursue music as a career. At the end of high school, my love for music only grew stronger and so I finally decided to pursue further studies here at YST.
Here, we get generous financial support, state-of-the-art facilities, amazing faculty, a multi-cultural and nurturing community, and countless opportunities - these are reasons why YST was my first choice for further studies. It is just too good to miss!
Coming up, I look forward to performing with my Piano peers on 11 October 2019 at the ACM (Asian Civilisations Museum)! It will be my first public performance as a YST student and I’ll get to see my peers in action. Getting to play in the beautiful museum and enter it for free is a bonus!”
