Krystian Zimerman is set to perform all five of Beethoven's piano concertos in Amsterdam this coming May. All five of the piano concertos will be played one after the other in what is expected to be a four-and-a-half-hour performance. A marathon indeed!

Coined by Peter Cornelius in 1854, which refers to Bach, Beethoven, and Berlioz.

Later in the century, the famous conductor Hans von Bülow would substitute Johannes Brahms for Berlioz.

Bülow had been attracted to the idea of a sort of Holy Trinity of classical music for a number of years, writing in the 1880s: "I believe in Bach, the Father, Beethoven, the Son, and Brahms, the Holy Ghost of music".
